011: Ask Us Anything: Finances for Freelancers, Overcoming Imposter Syndrome, and More

We’re answering YOUR questions today and we’ll warn you now: they don’t teach you this stuff in school!   Here are some of the questions we answered that came in from Instagram…

Do you have financial tips for 1099 and things you’ve learned the hard way when you’re self-employed?

The biggest piece of advice we can give you is that as a self-employed person, it is essential to have different bank accounts for your business and personal finances can help you keep track of your expenses and income, as well as ensure that you are not mixing business and personal expenses.    Additionally, it’s important to have an accountant who specializes in 1099 taxes. They can help you to understand the tax implications of your business and provide advice on the best way to structure your finances.

How do you balance big city energy vs. your small town vibes while still being ambitious?

Taking risks is essential for business and personal growth. We left our small towns at 18 and never looked back because we knew we wanted MORE for our lives. But now that we have spent all of our 20’s and our early 30’s working and creating a successful business, we’re now able to settle down.    Now, peace and a flexible schedule is our flex… we risked it all THEN so we can live the life we do NOW.

How long did it take you to convert to your healthy lifestyle, and what inspired the change?

Kyle’s dad died of a massive heart attack when he was 10 years old, so having a healthy lifestyle has always been ingrained in him from a young age.   Since we have been together since eighth grade, we have had so many different phases of how we’ve taken care of our health and prioritized our fitness, but it has always been important to us.

What are your best tips for overcoming imposter syndrome?

Before you can overcome imposter syndrome it’s important to recognize that it is a normal feeling. Everyone experiences imposter syndrome at some point in their lives, and understanding this allows us to have more compassion for ourselves.   When trying to overcome imposter syndrome, focus on your successes. It can be easy to focus on our failures and overlook our successes, but it is important to remember and celebrate our accomplishments!   And finally, build a strong support system. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and can remind you of your value when you’re feeling down.
