015: Sales Mini-Series 3: Master Sales Conversations to Achieve Your Goals

In part three of our social media sales series, you’ll learn 8 steps to using social media to market ANY business and y’all, trust us when we tell you that these strategies are LIFE CHANGING.   In fact, one businesswoman sent Erika her testimonial just last week, saying that after following the content tips I’m about to share with you, she’s had 7 new clients reach out.   If you’re ready to explode your business using the hottest social media marketing strategies in 2023, let’s get into the 8 steps to have a conversation that makes sales!

Step 1: Determine level of awareness/figure out problem

You can’t ask for a sale unless someone realizes that they have a problem that your product or service can fix. Many inexperienced salespeople focus on the features of what they sell, look at what I sell, but they’ve never touched on the level of awareness their ideal client has of the problem they solve! In a sales conversation or on social media, you can ask, “If you had a magic wand to erase the biggest problem that you have right now that you’re facing as it pertains to [your industry/product], what would you take away?” This gets your audience talking to you about their biggest struggles.

Step 2: Determine urgency

Next, you have to figure out how bad someone wants to fix that problem. In a sales conversation, you can say something like, “I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with that. On a scale of one to ten, how badly are you ready to [solve the problem]?” On social media, you can speak to the urgency of your audience by inviting them to envision what their life will look like 6 months from now with and without the transformation your product or service provides.

Step 3: Connect your product or service to fixing their problem

Once you’ve determined awareness and urgency, it’s time to craft your marketing and communication messages to emphasize the value your product or service brings in resolving your client’s problem. To do this, focus on the benefits, outcomes, or transformations they can expect by utilizing your offering and use language that resonates with their pain points and demonstrates empathy!

Step 4: Show them their options

If you have multiple offerings or payment plans, give them options because people like to feel in control. Basically, you listen to their problem and give them different ways you provide their solution! Ultimately, it’s their life and they get to choose how they can work with you.

Step 5: Overcome objections

Everyone will have objections to what you’re selling, so don’t be afraid when you hear them! If you want to be good at sales, view objections as an opportunity for you to help someone overcome an obstacle. Prior to having the sales conversation, you can prepare for objections by considering the most common ones: money and time. Address them as soon as possible because everything is figureoutable!

Step 6: Relate and be real

People buy from people, so leading with empathy and relating to your leads is crucial. Feel, Felt, Found is a great formula to use in sales conversations. For example, you can say: “I understand how you feel; I felt the same way. I found that [my product/service] helped me!”

Step 7: Answer their questions

A common mistake people make when having sales conversations is forgetting to give leads the space to ask questions. If you skip this step, you may lose the lead completely because they have questions they didn’t have the opportunity to get answers, which could be a barrier to them making an investment with you. So be sure to ask if they have any questions and clear up those loose ends before closing the deal!

Step 8: Tell them the next steps

This is when you say, “I’m so excited to work with you!” It’s important in this step to reaffirm their decision and their new reality. Depending on your product or service, this step will look different for everyone, but it is simply when you close the deal!
